SDL International Improves Translation Software With Launch of SDLX Version 3.5 and HelpQA 2.1

SDL Maidenhead , United Kingdom
04 April 2000

SDL International, a leading provider of globalization products and services, today announced the launch of a new version of its computer-aided translation software, SDLX, which will make translations into any language quicker and more accurate.

SDL International effectively enables companies to break down language and cultural barriers to sell their products worldwide. The company provides businesses with a complete package of software products and services required for cultural adaptation, multilingual translation, engineering adaptation and multilingual web content management.

Translation software, SDLX provides a fully integrated and cost effective solution for translators, SMEs and in-house translation departments. SDLX greatly improves the translator's speed quality and consistency by allowing the re-use of previously translated phrases and terms.

The new improved version 3.5 boasts the following features:

Asian 'fuzzy' matching, which enables increased leverage when using Chinese, Japanese and Korean as source languages
Enhancements to speed and performance of the software
Microsoft compatible character and word analysis algorithms
Today's announcement coincides with the launch of a new version of SDL's industry standard quality assurance tool, HelpQA. Used by companies such as Microsoft, Lionbridge and Siebel, Help QA automatically checks localized help systems, therefore reducing resources and time required to identify and correct common errors which occur during the translation and localization process.

One of the most significant new additions to HelpQA (version 2.1) is a color-coded error reporting system, which enables users to easily sort and highlight issues by simply clicking on relevant column headings. Version 2.1 also features context-sensitive help, enhanced statistical analysis and an improved user interface, which makes the system more intuitive and user-friendly.

Commenting on SDL's latest software developments, Keith Mills, Chief Technical Officer at SDL International, said: "These latest upgrades demonstrate our ongoing commitment to providing world-class computer aided translation software and customer support. Our team of developers and testers have worked hard to enhance the software and added features which further increase the efficiency and user-friendliness of both SDLX and Help QA."
